Jackson Hole Duo Win 4A Individual Titles, Cheyenne Central Takes Home Hardware By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Cheyenne Central rose up and dethroned the reigning 4A champions from Jackson Hole on Saturday at the Wyoming state championships in Ethete, Wyo., which is located on the Wind River Reservation in the central part of the state. The Cheyenne Central boys put four runners in the top 10, led by runner-up Jacob Frentheway, and scored 47 points to win the championship for the first time since 2007 Jackson Hole was second with 70, but did have the overall winner in Mason Wheeler, a senior who ran 16:10.5. Cheyenne Central's girls beat Jackson Hole 43-96 and also put four runners in the top 10 -- and across the finish line in less than 20 minutes. Kate Brigham of Jackson Hole won it in 18:38.2 and had a winning margin of 35 seconds over Finley Klinger of Kelly Walsh. In Class 3A, Owen Burnett (16:16.5) and Tanner Erickson (16:48.8) went 1-2 on the way to leading Mountain View to the team title. Star Valley was next with 71. Ava Stafford won the 3A girls race and led Cody to the title with a time of 19:25.6. Maddy Hill of Tongue River ran 20:19.4 to win the 2A girls race but Saratoga had four of the top seven scorers to win handily with 18 points to claim its first title since 2009. Tongue River was second with 39 points and the Wyoming Indian School was third with 52. An extremely tight boys race saw Rocky Mountain edge Saratoga on a fifth-runner tiebreaker (21-32) after both teams scored 30 points. Tongue River was right there as well for third with 32 points. Saratoga juniors and twin brothers Grant and Grady Bartlett went 1-2 for the second year in a row as they ran 17:01.9 and 17:17.8, respectively. It was Grant Bartlett's third victory at the state meet.
